International Trademark Classification 13th Edition
The Nice International Classification Thirteenth Edition entered in force in the Dominican Republic on January 1st, 2026.
In this regard, the Classification establishes, among other items, the following:
First: Goods and services will not be considered similar, solely for being in the same category;
Second:Goods and services will only be considered different by appearing in different classes within the international classification;
This update reinforces the correct interpretation and application of trademarks classification, guaranteeing greater legal certainty in the registration processes
Third: that the requests of renewal or acts of amendment of the registration of trademarks that are in process as well as those that are presented hereinafter before the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI) be reclassified, by virtue of the amendments adopted by the Nice Thirteenth Edition.
