AC Law partner featured in ABA Real Estate Publication
Arthur & Castillo Partner Featured in the ABA’s ‘Year in Review’ on Cross-Border Dominican Real Estate
When the American Bar Association surveys how real estate law evolved around the world each year, it turns to practitioners who work those markets daily. For the Dominican Republic, that call went to Felipe Castillo, partner at Arthur & Castillo.
Castillo was featured in ‘The Year in Review’ 2017, the annual publication of the ABA’s Section of International Law, for his contribution on cross-border Dominican Republic real estate practice. The publication compiles surveys of international legal developments across jurisdictions and practice areas, authored by legal experts recognized in their fields, a peer-reviewed snapshot that international lawyers and investors use to compare markets.
For clients, the relevance is practical rather than ceremonial. Cross-border real estate transactions in the Dominican Republic sit at the intersection of local title law (the Torrens-based registry system), tax, foreign investment rules and, increasingly, incentive regimes, and they are documented in Spanish for buyers who often negotiate in English. Working with counsel whose analysis is published and vetted internationally means your transaction is being handled to standards that peer jurisdictions recognize, not just local custom.
The full survey is available through the ABA Section of International Law’s ‘The Year in Review’ (2017 edition, at page 345 in this link) and in our Real Estate publications section.
