Dominican Republic to become Caribbean’s Air Hub

The Dominican Republic’s tourism industry and commercial aviation representatives agreed on August 10, 2016 to work to make the country the Caribbean’s major air hub.

The proposal was discussed in a gathering hosted by the Dominican Tourism Press Association (Adompretur), where the president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC)  promised to mediate to present the DR Caribbean Air Hub initiative.

The creation of the Caribbean Air Hub would bolster the tourism sector’s development and consolidate the DR as the region’s top tourist destination, allow to reach the goal of 10 million tourists per year and expand international markets to domestic production.

In order to accomplish said goals participants agreed that DR Government should reduce taxes on passengers and airfreight to attract greater tourism and cargo markets, allowing for the increase commercial aviation activity to generate higher income for the country.
